Dates & Schedule

"Return to Truth" 8-day Retreat

 At stunning Lake Atitlan, Guatemala

April 1-9, 2013

Dates - Schedule

Class will begin on April 2, so arrival needs to be April 1, as it is a long drive from the airport to the Lake.

We will have a total of 5 days of instruction and the days will be loosely structured in order to accommodate the needs of the group, the weather (especially for the day trips to other villages), and the planned, included activities such as the Mayan ceremonies.

I will be teaching at some sites off the hotel property during our trips.

We will begin each day with breakfast (served in the beautiful, view dining room) and begin training after.  If it is a particularly gorgeous morning (as most will be) and the group decides to start class later, so as to take advantage of hiking, swimming, kayaking or other activities then we will just extend class later into the evening after supper.  I am open to the consensus of the group.

Some of the optional outings, such as shopping at the famous street market in Chichicastengo, we may do as a group if everyone decides they would like to go. I will stay open and flexible.

April 8 is the last day of formal class with check out from the hotel on the 9th.

There are many gorgeous places to visit in Guatemala that require a day or two for travel, such as Semuc Champey near the border of Belize, with its series of natural, stepped pools and falls, or the coastal village of Monterrico with its black sand beaches

Many visitors love taking a few days in Antigua, the beautiful colonial city about a 2.5 hour drive from the Lake.  There are some truly gorgeous hotels to stay in at Antigua, including an old monastery that is completely lit with candles, hundreds of them, at night and has fireplaces in every room.  Antigua is also a big cultural center and is more cosmopolitan than the Mayan Highlands with their own simple, natural beauty.

There is a planned day or two off in the middle of training but if the group desires, we could also allow these days to be all together at the end so that would allow you 2 days back-to-back of free time to travel anywhere.

The Ruins and Great Pyramid in Tikal are about an 8 - 9 hour shuttle or bus drive from Lake Atitlan and about 6 and a half from Guatemala City, however there are flights from Guatemala City that take only 50 minutes.  Be forewarned however that flights may book early because of the Easter celebration.

Just staying at the lake for weeks is enough for some with its 13 different Mayan villages, fabulous restaurants, colorful and fun markets, shopping for Mayan wares, fabrics, jewelry, wooden masks (all hand made), kayaking or boating on the lake, swimming and so much more.  There is even a scuba diving company for dives into the magical lake.

There will be plenty of time for learning everything and having fun, together with time for quiet, deep reflection and just being with yourself in this breathtaking environment. Flexibility is important to get the most out of a trip to an exotic location like Guatemala, so I will go with the flow of the students.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have.
